Guide
Dump Trailer vs. Roll-Off Dumpster vs. Full-Service Junk Removal
There are three normal ways to get a pile of stuff out of your life, and they're genuinely different — not just different prices for the same thing. Picking wrong is how people end up with a cracked driveway or a bill they didn't expect.
We rent trailers and we do full-service hauling, so we have a horse in this race. We'll still tell you when a roll-off is the better answer, because sending you to the wrong option is how we'd lose the next job.
Dump trailer rental — you load, at your pace
- Rides on rubber tires, so it sits on a normal driveway without cracking concrete or pavers.
- You keep it for the week and load it whenever suits you.
- Usually the cheapest option if you have the time and the driveway, because you're providing the labor.
- Best for: garage cleanouts, gradual projects, HOA neighborhoods, tight or decorative driveways.
Roll-off dumpster — big, and it stays a while
- Comes in much larger sizes than a trailer, so it wins on genuinely huge volume.
- Dropped on steel, which is where driveway damage comes from; it often needs to sit on the street.
- May require a permit if it's on a public street, depending on the city.
- Best for: large construction jobs, demolition, multi-week builds where volume beats everything else.
Full-service junk removal — we do all of it
- You point, we carry, load, haul and sweep up. Nothing is ever parked at your house.
- Costs more than a rental because labor is included — that's the whole trade.
- Fastest option: usually done in a single visit.
- Best for: heavy or awkward items, upstairs carries, estate and tenant cleanouts, anyone short on time or unable to lift.
How to choose in one line each
- Have a driveway, time, and can lift? Rent the trailer.
- Enormous volume, long project, street placement is fine? Get a roll-off.
- Want it gone today without touching it? Full service.
Common questions
Is a dump trailer cheaper than a dumpster?
Often, for household-sized jobs, because you're doing the loading and there's no permit involved. For genuinely large construction volume a roll-off can be more economical per cubic yard. It depends on the job, not on which one we'd rather rent you.
Do I need a permit for a dump trailer?
Parked on your own driveway, generally no. Roll-offs placed on a public street are the ones that commonly need a permit — check with your city.
Can a dumpster crack my driveway?
It can. Roll-offs are dropped and dragged on steel, which is why decorative concrete and pavers are a real risk. That's the main reason our trailers ride on rubber tires.
